A few months ago I posted about Ingrid’s lack of sleep at night. Not much has changed, she still wakes up every night. I’ve spoken to several people about this and the only ones that seem to understand are other parents of DS kids. I’m amazed that of all the doctors and therapists that we see no one knows what I’m talking about.
It’s not that she won’t sleep. She falls asleep as normally. Problem is that she doesn’t sleep very long; to sleep for 3-4 hours at a time is a stretch. I’ve heard suggestions such as reflux, hunger, and a few others that escape me at the moment, yet no reflux, we’ve added warm oatmeal & soymilk as her bedtime snack to combat hunger and still no help. I’m running out of ideas and my frazzled (& very tired) brain can’t come up with anything else.
I mentioned before that she may be channelling some unseen alien life or something to that effect. And I’m wondering if I was right all along. She’s a great and beautiful little girl. I wouldn’t trade her for the world (…unless the question is presented at 3am! I’M JOKING!!!) I just can’t comprehend how a child of mine can not like sleep. I mean, really.. I could be the queen of naptime if given the opportunity. And my husband, he is the king of naptime!! Even our son is a great sleeper. That kid can sleep for 10-12 hours at night and still take a nap through the day. He’s my kind of sleeper! But my precious, sweet hearted, lovable Ingrid…hates me. I’m certain. See, here it is 3 something in the morning and after being up with her for the past hour, she’s now asleep and I’m still awake.
The moral of the story is that along with being a lovely child who is not fond of her mama, she’s an intelligent and beautiful creature from another world. Okay, I need sleep. This is getting strange! There it is people… my 3am in a nutshell. We’re all crazy when we’re sleep deprived!
